Product Notes
Chart topper Engelbert Humperdinck takes you on a guided tour of his private life and meteoric career. One of ten children born to a British Army Officer and his Indian wife, Arnold Dorsey grew up yearning for a voice like Nat King Cole. As a teenage crooner, he made his singing debut at a working class social club where rowdy patrons pelted unpopular acts with empty bottles. Billing himself as Gerry Dorsey, the singer endured poverty, poor health and rejection after rejection... until Tom Jones' manager suggested he try changing his stage name. When Engelbert Humperdinck filled in for a sick performer on Sunday Night at the Palladium in April 1967, London traffic snarled as fans mobbed the venue... and a star was born. Catch Engelbert's act backstage and onstage, and in vintage kinescopes, film and video tape, as he performs many of his hit songs, including "Release Me," "The Last Waltz" "After the Lovin'" and "Quando, Quando, Quando." for over fifty years, Engelbert Humperdinck has been breaking hearts and breaking records... long live the King of Romance.
