Product Notes
Some of the finest lovers rock music ever produced. Includes two albums and numerous tracks new to CD. Features many of Jamaica's greatest performers. Having initially made a huge impact on Britain's reggae scene in the late 1970s, lovers rock took off in style in Jamaica at the dawn of the 80s. Throughout the remainder of the decade, some of the finest romantically-themed reggae music was created in Jamaican studios, with Revue Records owner, Phil Mathias the most effective proponent of the genre outside of the UK. Testament to Mathias's dedication to the lovers sound is demonstrated by the music on this 2CD collection, which showcases two long-players along with an array of tracks issued on his Revue label between 1980 and 1985, with most of these being made available on CD for the first time. The albums that open the respective discs of this release showcase the talents of two of Jamaican music's most venerated artists, while the bonus tracks feature an array of equally superior works by such reggae giants as Boris Gardiner, Delroy Wilson, Freddie McKay, Fil Callender And the In Crowd and Ruddy Thomas. The timeless recordings on this essential collection superbly demonstrate just why Revue Records has long since been widely regarded as the home of the Jamaican lovers rock sound.
