Product Notes
Stage Door are pleased to present the CD debut of 'Los Fantastikos', the 1961 Mexico City Cast Recording of Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt's musical 'The Fantasticks'. Adapted by Luis de Llano and Martha Fischer, the Spanish language production opened at Mexico City's Teatro del Bosque on April 6th 1961, and starred Armando Calvo, Maria Rivas, Antonio Gama, Ortiz de Pinedo and Guillermo Orea. The production followed a series of successful Spanish musical adaptations that Lluis de Llano and Rene Anselmo presented in Mexico City, including 'Los Novios' ('The Boy Friend'), 'Ring, Ring, Llama El Amor' ('Bells Are Ringing') and 'La Pelirojja' ('Redhead'). The 1961 Mexico City production of 'Los Fantastikos' was preserved on an Original Cast Album issued by Columbia Records. Now considered one of the rarest and most sought after international cast recordings, the album now makes it's debut on CD. In addition, the release includes two songs recorded by Christian Bratt; star of the Original 1962 Stockholm production of 'The Fantasticks' alongside a handful of Swedish cover recordings from the score. As bonus tracks, the album concludes with a selection of pop cover recordings from 'The Fantasticks' as sung by Harry Belafonte ('Try to Remember'), James Shigeta ('Soon It's Gonna Rain') and Don Rondo ('They Were You').
