Steve Martin turns in a terrific performance as Jonas Nightingale, a tent revival preacher who uses high-tech razzmatazz orchestrated by manager Jane Larson (Debra Winger) to dupe scores of downtrodden believers in the Midwest. A stop at a small town may change things for the conning couple, as Larson falls for the local lawman (Liam Neeson) and Nightingale's faith healing claims are put to the test.
