Set in a small Texan town between November 1951 to October 1952, and made in black and white at Welles' suggestion, 'The Last Picture Show' - nominated for eight Academy Awards and winning two - is regarded as one of the most poetic American films of the era. 'Paper Moon', another black and white feature, and another commercial and critical success, is an ingenious reinvention of the classic American road movie. It won a best supporting actress Oscar for 10 year-old Tatum O'Neal.
