When the Doctor (William Hartnell), Steven and Dodo land on a distant future world, they discover that it's inhabited by two cultures, the advanced Elders and the primitive Savages. They further learn to their shock that the seemingly benign Elders prey upon the Savages for the necessary life energy to power their civilization.
