When dashing French officer Charles Edouard de Valhubert (Brazzi) sweeps Englishwoman Grace Allingham (Kerr) off her feet, it leads to a whirlwind courtship, a hasty marriage and a baby boy named Sigi. Called back to service while on honeymoon. Charles doesn't return for nine years, having performed his duty for a number of women as well as the country of France. Ignoring her husband's uncle (Chevalier), who insists philandering is the French way of life, Grace splits up with Charles.
