Product Notes
"2046" is a film directed by Wong Kar-wai. It is generally considered to be the sequel to Wong's previous films "In the Mood for Love" and "Days of Wild". The story tells that writer Zhou Muyun (played by Tony Leung) who lives in Room 2047 of the Oriental Hotel meets several women living in Room 2046, including Bai Ling (played by Zhang Ziyi) and Wang Jingwen (played by Faye Wong). "2046" and "2047" were written as two fantasy stories. This film was selected for competition at the 57th Cannes Film Festival.
Part of the film's plot was inspired by Liu Yichang's novel "The Drunkard".
Synopsis
In 1966, Chow Mu-wan returned to Hong Kong and faced again the past that he had buried himself in. He met different women, but experienced emotional trauma that numbed his heart. He sealed away countless forgotten memories in his heart, preventing anyone from getting close to them. In order to survive, he became a writer of erotic novels. By chance, he moved into room 2047 and began writing a novel called "2046". In the novel, as long as people get on the train to 2046, they can retrieve their lost memories. No one knows if this is true, because no one can ever leave 2046. Until 2046 AD, the mysterious train was still bound for 2046 on a regular basis
